Ways to support us

Give the gift of literacy and help every child thrive.

The Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation is dedicated to ensuring every child in Canada has the chance to thrive through the power of literacy. With the generosity of our donors, we can close the literacy gap and build a more equitable, prosperous future for children across the country.

Becoming a monthly donor is one of the most impactful ways to support children’s literacy. Your steady commitment provides reliable funding that helps us reach more families, year after year.

Donating publicly traded securities or mutual funds is one of the most efficient ways to support early literacy. Since capital gains taxes don’t apply, your gift goes further: our charity receives the full fair market value when the security is sold, and you receive a charitable tax receipt that reflects your larger contribution. You can make your gift securely through our Canada Helps Securities Donation Form.

Have questions? We’re happy to help.

At the Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation, we believe partnerships are essential to ensuring every child in Canada has the literacy skills they need to thrive.

We collaborate with a wide range of partners — across sectors and across the country — to make early literacy a priority where it matters most.

Our partnerships span two core areas: healthcare, where we work to integrate early literacy into pediatric care and family health services, and early years education, where we equip educators and caregivers with tools, training, and resources that support children from birth.

Beyond these sectors, we also work with:

  • Governments to advance policies, programs, and initiatives that strengthen literacy in communities across Canada.
  • Corporations that want to align their expertise, networks, and resources with our mission.
  • Nonprofits to expand reach, share knowledge, and build initiatives that respond to local needs while contributing to national progress.
  • School boards and early learning networks to engage caregivers and promote early literacy — though we don’t provide classroom programming.

Whether you’re a government agency, a company, or a community organization, we tailor partnerships to your goals and capacity. Together, we can create lasting change for children and families across Canada.

Let’s explore what we can achieve together.

  • Can I fundraise for you?

Yes! Whether it’s a birthday fundraiser, school event, or corporate challenge, we’d love your support. Reach out to us at partnerships@childrensliteracy.ca to let us know what you have in mind.

  • My company matches donations. How do I get started?

Contact your HR team or workplace giving program. You may need our CRA number and a copy of your donation receipt to request a match.

  • Can I donate through payroll deduction at work?

Yes! Many employers offer payroll giving programs — check with your HR department to see if we’re an eligible charity.

  • Do you accept in-kind donations (e.g. books)?

If you’re considering an in-kind contribution, please contact us to discuss possibilities. We do gratefully accept in-kind donations on a limited basis, but are not always able to accept every type of item. Nevertheless, we’re happy to explore opportunities that support our current program needs — so please get in touch!

  • Can I donate by cheque?

Yes! Cheques can be made payable to Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation and mailed to: 620 King Street West, Suite 400, Toronto, Ontario M5V 1M6, Canada.

  • Can I donate through a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

Yes! You can recommend a grant through your DAF using our legal name: Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation / Fondation pour l’alphabétisation des enfants canadiens.

  • Do you accept gifts of securities?

Yes! Donating stocks or mutual funds is a tax-efficient way to give. Learn more or donate through CanadaHelps.

  • Do you have children’s books you can donate to our literacy program?

As a charitable organization ourselves, we are not able to donate books to other literacy programs. All of the books that we purchase or receive are used in our Early Words program.

  • How can we support your work beyond financial contributions?

There are many ways you can support us! Sharing our resources, raising awareness about early literacy, and reading with the little ones in your life are all great ways to put our work into practice in your own life.

If you’re an organization interested in supporting us, consider partnering with us! Get in touch here.

  • Do you sponsor events?

As a charitable organization ourselves, we are unfortunately unable to provide sponsorship funding for events.

  • Do you provide funding for other literacy programs?

As a nonprofit, we are unfortunately unable to provide funding for other programs.

  • Can you promote my children’s book?

We do not market or promote kids’ books, including the ones that are offered within our programs.

  • I want to donate books for children. Do you accept book donations?

We generally do not accept book donations, but we encourage you to consider donating to local public libraries, shelters, family resource centres, or other literacy-focused organizations in your community that may be able to distribute them directly to children and families!

  • I’m an author of children’s books, how can I collaborate with you to support early literacy?

Thank you for your interest in using your platform to support early literacy! Here are some ways you can help:

    • Encourage your audience to read your book (or any book!) to children using our reading tips.
    • Promote the importance of reading from birth and help raise awareness about Canada’s literacy crisis by mentioning us in your outreach.
    • If you wish, you can donate a portion of your book’s proceeds and let your readers know their purchase will support our work.

While we don’t typically accept book donations, you’re welcome to send a digital copy for our programming team to review for possible inclusion in our initiatives!

  • How can I volunteer at your organization and help improve children’s reading skills?

At this time, we do not offer placement opportunities for students. While we are always exploring ways to grow and expand our programs, we currently do not have the capacity to support student placements. This may change in the future, and we encourage you to check back with us at a later date.
