We are delighted to present our annual Impact Report for 2023.
With the help of literacy supporters across Canada, we continue to champion, connect, and develop initiatives that will enable Canada’s children to become the most literate in the world. We’re immensely proud of the milestones we were able to achieve this year as a result of this support.
In this report, you'll read about how we trained 699 new professionals to provide early literacy counselling to families through the Early Words program, resulting in 34,000 conversations about early literacy development between healthcare providers and families, with an accompanying high-quality, developmentally appropriate children’s book. You'll also read about how 5,100 children participated in our national storytelling project, Lost & Found, with over 1,500 children's stories being showcased in the project's digital exhibit. Finally, you'll learn about our recent advocacy work, including the fact that 54 multisectoral partners endorsed our policy recommendations for a Canada-wide Early Learning and Child Care system in which improved early literacy is a goal.
These accomplishments were made possible with the help of families, donors, partner organizations, and the hundreds of professionals who are deeply committed to advancing literacy across Canada. Their dedication enabled CCLF to continue playing a key role in bringing about the systemic change required to ensure Canadian children have the literacy skills they need to reach their full potential.
Together, we are improving access to literacy resources, ensuring that every adult in a child’s life becomes a partner in reading development, making the reading problems Canada faces visible, and prioritizing solutions at a national level. Thank you for believing in our work and championing children’s literacy!
