Giving Back: Cedar Grove’s Story

This year, one Early Words clinic wanted to give back to the program as an expression of their gratitude.

“It’s always been mindboggling to me that Early Words is able to give clinics tens of thousands of dollars worth of high quality, brand new, and pre-vetted books to share with families,” said Dr. Norm McLean, Medical Director at Cedar Grove Pediatrics. “I knew it must be costly for the program!”

This appreciation for the program and its model fuelled Cedar Grove’s recent decision to generously donate 10% of their book costs from their overhead.

For co-owners Dr. McLean and Dr. Tien-Estrada, this was an easy decision. Cedar Grove has been an Early Words site for nearly four years, and over this time, they’ve seen its impact firsthand: “Families have come back after receiving the book and told stories about how transformative it was, and how the kids are asking them to read again,” explains Dr. McLean.

“If our donation helps the program continue to offer these books and to create these moments, it’s worth it.”

The Early Words team is immensely grateful to Cedar Grove Pediatrics, Dr. McLean, and Dr. Tien-Estrada for their generous joint donation to the program! Their kind support will ensure that even more clinics across Canada can receive high-quality books, reaching families who need them most.
